BS 7858 is the code of practice for screening individuals employed in security environments. It requires verification of identity and right to work, a five-year (minimum) employment and address history with gaps investigated, character references, financial probity checks and criminal record disclosure appropriate to the role. It is not a tick-box DBS check — it is a structured investigation into whether a person can be trusted with your premises.
Insider threat is real: a dishonest officer has keys, codes, patrol patterns and hours of unobserved access.
